“The United States Department of Education awarded the Afterschool for Children and Teens Now Coalition two federal grants totaling $94 million to support the initiation and expansion of full-service community schools in Illinois, including Vienna and Herrin.

Vienna HSD 13-3 is a part of the rural school consortium, and Herrin CUSD 4 is a part of the Title I consortium within the grant. Both downstate districts have taken the helm as key players in the implementation of the community schools model in Illinois, according to a statement from Vienna superintendent Josh Stafford.

Susan Stanton, network lead for ACT Now, said the Full-Service ĢƵ Grant Program provides support for the planning, implementation and operation of full-service community schools that improve the coordination, integration, accessibility and effectiveness of services for children and families, particularly for children attending high-poverty schools.”
